“Don’t waste more time on political disputes, but to strive for a brighter future in integrating with China’s 14th Five-Year Plan.” Here’s what a high-level delegation from Beijing advised Hong Kong in its tour to the city this week.
The delegation arrived in the city on Monday to meet not only with officials of the SAR government, but also local legislators, business representatives and scholars, with the mission to introduce the nation’s next five year plan.
China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) offers historic opportunities for Hong Kong to further integrate into the country's national development, and Hong Kong could make a significant impact in advancing the plan as the city plays a unique and irreplaceable role in the nation’s reform and opening-up, the delegation said.
Besides continuing to support Hong Kong enhancing its status as an international financial, transportation, trade centre and aviation hub, the plan also aims to strengthen the city's roles as a global offshore RMB business hub, an international asset management centre and technological innovation centre.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Tuesday that the efforts to enable Hong Kong people to better grasp the opportunities to integrate into the country’s development will be positive for the city’s economic development and improvement of people’s livelihood.
If there was any doubt about the value Beijing places on Hong Kong’s financial role, it must surely be resolved by the presence of such a high-powered delegation, especially those from the commission, which was behind the drafting of the plan.
There’s a simple saying in Chinese to get the gist of Beijing’s message: “roll up your sleeves and get to work”, for there’s still a brighter future ahead for Hong Kong.
“良好局面，来之不易。‘苏州过后无艇搭’。当下香港最迫切需要的是尽快形成聚精会神搞建设、一心一意谋发展的社会共识。”这是国务院港澳办副主任黄柳权在香港特区立法会主办的国家“十四五”规划讲座上语重心长的一席话。
作为国家“十四五”规划宣讲团在港活动的重要组成部分，“拥抱’十四五’ 融入’双循环’”高峰论坛24日在香港会展中心举行，由香港中国企业协会和香港贸发局主办。来自香港工商界、学术界、外国商会和外资企业代表，以及中企协会会员代表等300余人与会。林郑月娥24日向媒体表示，让香港市民更能掌握融入国家发展大局的机遇、用好国家规划给予的支持，这对香港未来的经济发展、民生改善以及青年向上流动都十分积极正面。
国家“十四五”规划明确，支持香港提升国际金融、航运、贸易中心和国际航空枢纽地位，强化全球离岸人民币业务枢纽、国际资产管理中心及风险管理中心功能。支持香港建设国际创新科技中心、亚太区国际法律及解决争议服务中心、区域知识产权贸易中心，支持香港服务业向高端高增值方向发展，支持香港发展中外文化艺术交流中心。
这次高规格的宣讲团抵港，强调了香港在国家改革开放进程中的特殊地位，也说明了国家对香港国际金融中心地位的肯定，以及对其加快融入国家发展大局的殷切期盼。
“撸起袖子好好干吧”，香港的前景依然美好。

Shares in Tencent Holdings surged 11 percent over the past three days after the Chinese internet giant repurchased HK$280 million worth of its shares, demonstrating confidence in the company’s future prospects despite a slew of new regulations aimed at reining in internet-based mammoths.
腾讯本周连续3天回购股票，共计2.8亿港元。截至今日收盘，腾讯股价已累计飙升11%。
Chinese iron ore company Hainan Mining said Monday that it will spend 1.1 billion yuan to seek opportunities in the battery materials industry for the first time, and will build a lithium processing plant in the island province. In the first six months of this year, the firm's net profit surged nearly 30 times to 578 million yuan, and its revenue jumped 61 percent to 2 billion yuan, according to its H1 earnings results released Monday.
8月23日晚间，海南矿业披露2021年半年度报告，公司上半年实现营业收入为20.45亿元，同比增长61.02%；实现归母净利润5.78亿元，同比增长近30倍。同一时间，海南矿业宣布，公司拟投资建设海南星之海新材料有限公司2万吨电池级氢氧化锂项目（一期），预计总投资额不超过10.65亿元。
The commercial property management unit of Chinese real estate giant Dalian Wanda Group recently began procedures to land on Hong Kong’s stock market for a second time after completing a restructuring with local state capital. The Wanda unit was delisted from HKEX less than two years after it first landed on the bourse in 2014 due to its slumping share price.
重组后的万达商管再一次赴港上市。中国证监会官网显示万达商业已在8月20日递交《境外首次公开发行股份(包括普通股、优先股等各类股票及股票派生的形式)审批》材料，目前的进度跟踪状态显示为“接收材料”。若此次的接收材料获得受理，万达商管此后将可在港交所递交招股书，以珠海万达商管为上市主体在香港上市。早在2014年万达商管就已登陆港交所，但鉴于内地和港股市场的估值落差，股价长期在净资产上下徘徊，2016年宣布退市。
Shares in Tongcheng-Elong continued to gain another 0.24 percent after jumping 6.64 percent yesterday. The leading Chinese online travel agency reported that its profit in the second quarter had doubled thanks to close collaborations with WeChat.
8月23日，同程艺龙发布上半年业绩报告。二季度，公司实现营收21.4亿元，较去年同期增长78.1%；经调整净利润3.98亿元，同比增长103%。公司股价昨日大涨6.64%，今日又涨0.24%，报16.42港元。
Universal Studios’ new theme park in Beijing, the third in Asia after Tokyo and Singapore, will finally throw open its doors after three years of construction on September 1 for a trial period. The theme park, named “Universal City Walk”, will only be open to invited guests during the period of trial operation, the resort said yesterday. No tickets will be sold to the public.
随着为期三个月的内部压力测试工作临近尾声，北京环球度假区宣布将于9月1日正式开启试运行。但北京环球影城表示，试运行门票不会对公众售卖，且不可转让。据了解，目前阶段，仅接待受邀前往北京环球影城参加内测的客人。

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.74 percent, at 3540 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.23 percent higher at 14697 points. The Hang Seng Index lost 0.13 percent to close at 25693 points.
周三A股股市集体收涨，截至收盘，沪指涨0.74%，报收3540点；深成指涨0.23%，报收14697点。港股恒生指数收跌0.13%，报收25693点。
