China's digital currency, the e-CNY, has shown more charm thanks to 400,000 eye-catching application scenarios and multiple trail activities at the ongoing Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, which analysts say paves the way for a further large-scale national rollout and cross-border application.  

The Olympic Games marks the first time that the central bank-backed sovereign digital currency is available for international users. The e-CNY is one of three forms of payment available to athletes and visitors, along with Visa and cash, and the only one that supports contact-less payment for the need of epidemic prevention and control.

Not only at venues in the competition zone, consumers can also use the e-CNY outside the "closed-loop" for various services, including transportation, catering, accommodations, shopping and tourism.

In order to make it easier for foreigner guests to experience the digital yuan during the Winter Olympics, authorities have optimised the process, and visitors can open digital yuan wallets simply by downloading the app and passing the verification process with overseas mobile phone numbers. 

Since its debut in late 2019, the digital yuan has been accessible in 11 Chinese cities. As of the end of January, the digital wallet app has been downloaded more than 30 million times in major app stores including Huawei, Vivo, Xiaomi and OPPO.

As of the end of 2021, more than 261 million personal wallets had been opened, with more than 8 million application scenarios and a transaction volume totalling over 87 billion yuan, according to the People's Bank of China. 

数字人民币试点落地冬奥，成为赛场外的一大亮点。分析认为，这次大规模试点有望成为全面推广数字人民币的契机。

截至2021年底，北京市开立数字人民币个人钱包超1200万个，对公钱包超130万个，覆盖食、住、行、游、购、娱、医等冬奥全场景40余万个，交易金额96亿元。冬奥会期间，各场馆均设有特许商品零售店、餐饮售卖亭等设施，除奥运会和残奥会官方指定独家支付服务提供商VISA外，只能使用数字人民币和实物人民币支付。而数字人民币的非接触支付方式，能够充分满足冬奥的防疫要求，助力“安全”奥运，成为一大优势。

为了方便境外来华人士在冬奥会期间使用数字人民币，相关部门对下载数字人民币APP操作流程也做了诸多优化。数字人民币APP可在中国各主要应用市场下载获取，支持近百个冬奥会参赛国家和地区手机号注册和开通钱包。

目前，人民银行已经在深圳、苏州、雄安、成都、上海、海南、长沙、西安、青岛、大连等地和2022年北京冬奥会场景开展数字人民币试点。截至1月28日，数字人民币APP在华为、vivo、小米、OPPO4家商店合计下载量已超3000万次。

1月18日，国新办举行2021年金融统计数据新闻发布会，发布的数据显示，截至2021年12月31日，数字人民币试点场景已超过808.51万个，累计开立个人钱包2.61亿个，交易金额875.65亿元。

• China’s top economic planner and energy department issued the Opinions on Improving Institutional Mechanisms and Policy Measures for Green and Low-Carbon Energy Transition, proposing to promote the construction of a unified green product certification and labelling system, to establish a green energy consumption certification mechanism, and to encourage various social organisations to recognise such certification.

  发改委发布能源绿色低碳转型意见：2月10日，国家发改委、国家能源局发布《关于完善能源绿色低碳转型体制机制和政策措施的意见》，《意见》要求，“十四五”时期，基本建立推进能源绿色低碳发展的制度框架，形成比较完善的政策、标准、市场和监管体系，构建以能耗“双控”和非化石能源目标制度为引领的能源绿色低碳转型推进机制。到2030年，基本建立完整的能源绿色低碳发展基本制度和政策体系，形成非化石能源既基本满足能源需求增量又规模化替代化石能源存量、能源安全保障能力得到全面增强的能源生产消费格局。

• Chinese iron ore market information providers were recently summoned by the NDRC and State Administration for Market Regulation, and were urged to publish accurate market information amid volatility in iron ore prices, instead of spreading false information about prices, the NDRC said on Wednesday. 

  两部门约谈铁矿石资讯企业：9日消息，针对近期铁矿石价格出现异动的情况，国家发改委价格司、市场监管总局价监竞争局联合约谈有关铁矿石资讯企业，称将加强市场监管，对于捏造散布涨价信息、哄抬价格等违法违规行为将严厉惩处。

• China's male figure skater and two-time world championships bronze medalist Jin Boyang rewrote his personal best score and ranked ninth at the Beijing Winter Games today. By 5 p.m Thursday, China ranks seventh in the Olympic medal tally with 3 golds and 2 silvers.

  直击冬奥：2月10日，中国选手金博洋在冬奥花样滑冰男子单人滑比赛中，刷新了个人赛季最佳自由滑成绩，最终以总分270.43分名列第九。截至2月10日下午5时，北京冬奥会中国代表团累计获得3金2银，排名奖牌榜第7。

疫情简报

• The Chinese mainland reported 7 confirmed cases on Wednesday, all in Baise, Guangxi province. 

  Hong Kong registered another record-breaking 1,161 new cases yesterday. Vegetables prices surged in the city as the neighbouring mainland city of Shenzhen tightened testing rules for cross-border truck drivers, after five of them tested positive for Covid-19 between Friday and Monday. Credit rating agency Fitch Ratings cut Hong Kong's 2022 economic growth forecast to 1.5 percent from 3 percent as the government has further tightened social distancing measures. 

  2月9日，内地新增本土病例7例，均在广西百色市。

  香港新增1161宗确诊病例，首次单日破千。深圳在上周五至本周一期间发现5名香港跨境货车司机新冠检测呈阳性，逐步收紧相关检测规定，导致香港蔬菜短缺，菜价飞涨。9日，国际信贷评级机构惠誉宣布，因港府为了遏制疫情传播推出新一轮防疫措施，将今年香港经济增长预测由3%降至1.5%。

• Japan's SoftBank Group said on Wednesday there was no link between Alibaba registering a U.S. share facility and any specific plans to sell down its stake in the Chinese e-commerce giant. SoftBank's shares jumped almost 6 percent in Tokyo, while Alibaba's Hong Kong-listed shares went up 7.6 percent on Wednesday. 

  软银澄清减持阿里传闻：8日下午，软银集团表态，阿里巴巴额外注册的ADS不与软银未来的任何交易挂钩。阿里巴巴港股9日盘中股价涨超6%。此前，阿里巴巴集团向美国证券交易委员会申请额外注册10亿份美国存托股票，引起市场猜测软银可能打算减持阿里股份。

• China Mobile reached a new peak in Shanghai after soaring more than 15 percent in the past two days. The state-owned telecoms operator surged by the 10 percent upper limit to end on Wednesday at 67.43 yuan. Today, China Mobile slid 2.12 percent at 66 yuan.

  中移动“脱鞋”后涨停：9号，A股市场通信服务板块持续走强，中国移动涨停，突破了上市当日63.60元的记录。中国移动A股于2月8日正式“脱鞋”，“脱鞋”两日，其股价不降反升，两个交易日内股价上涨15.96%。10日，中国移动股价回吐，跌2.12%，报66元。

• Shares in Xpeng Motors surged by 8 percent on Wednesday after the Chinese electric car startup was added to the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect mechanism, allowing mainland investors to snap up its Hong Kong-listed shares.

  小鹏汽车纳入港股通大涨：9日，深交所发布公告称，将小鹏汽车纳入深港通下的港股通股票名单，同日起正式生效。小鹏汽车9日股价盘中走强，报收152.50港元，涨幅达8%。

• Bilibili said it has established a special group to support the family of the deceased employee and reached an agreement on the compensation late Tuesday. The company also revealed a plan to recruit 1,000 additional content reviewers to relieve the work load of its employees, after denying claims that excessive overtime led to the death. 

  B站拟扩招千名审核人员：8日晚间，B站在其官微发布长文正式公开回应“员工过年期间猝死”：沉痛哀悼一个生命的逝去，已和家属沟通好善后事宜，并透露今年将扩招1000名审核人员降低人均工作量，并将加强关注审核员工的身体健康。

• China's outstanding local government debts came in at 30.47 trillion yuan (about $4.79 trillion) by the end of December 2021, official data showed Wednesday. The volume was well below the upper limit of nearly 33.28 trillion yuan decided by the country's top legislature earlier last year. 

  地方政府债务余额出炉：2月9日，财政部公布2021年12月地方政府债券发行和债务余额情况。截至2021年12月末，全国地方政府债务余额304700亿元，控制在全国人大批准的限额332774.3亿元之内。

• In January, China issued a total of 56 green bonds worth 88.06 billion yuan, nearly 13 times the value issued in the same month last year, indicating the green bond market is likely to further expand as the country is pursuing carbon neutrality. 

  绿色债券发行规模大增：2022年1月份我国共发行绿色债券56只，共计规模达880.63亿元，而去年同期仅发行绿色债券12只，共计67.3亿元，今年1月份绿色债券发行规模是去年同期近13倍。

• Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with stocks in the infrastructure and coal sectors leading the gains. The benchmark Shanghai Composite edged up 0.17 percent while the Shenzhen Component shed 0.73 percent. The Hang Seng Index and the tech stocks each gained 0.38 percent and 0.56 percent. 

  周四A股各大指数走势出现分化，沪指收涨0.17%，深成指跌0.73%。基建股、煤炭板块走强。港股恒生指数涨0.38%，科技指数涨0.56%。

• Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, pairs, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport to be included in the Olympic Games. Athletes draw figures on the ice with skates and perform difficult movements such as jumping and spinning. Judges will score based on the quality and beauty of the movements.
