China’s economy grew by 2.9 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared with a year earlier, bringing the overall growth rate for last year to 3 percent, official data released on Tuesday showed.

The country's annual GDP came in at 121.02 trillion yuan ($17.94 trillion) in 2022, surpassing the 120 trillion yuan threshold, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Last year's annual GDP growth marked a slowdown from 8.4 percent in 2021, according to the bureau. It’s also the second lowest since 1976.

In 2022, the Chinese economy encountered more difficulties and challenges than was expected amid a complex domestic and international situation. However, the NBS said economic growth stabilized after various measures were taken to shore up growth.

Industrial output, an important economic indicator, expanded by 3.6 percent year-on-year in 2022 and 1.3 percent in December. Notably, the industrial output of high-tech manufacturing and equipment manufacturing soared by 7.4 percent and 5.6 percent, respectively, year-on-year.  

Fixed-asset investment increased by 5.1 percent year-on-year to reach 57.21 trillion yuan in 2022, with investment in high-tech industries jumping 18.9 percent year-on-year, while investment in real estate development cascaded 10 percent. 

Retail sales of consumer goods totaled 43.97 trillion yuan in 2022, declining 0.2 percent from a year ago. 

China's per capita disposable income stood at 36,883 yuan (about US$5,487) in 2022, up 5 percent year on year in nominal terms, the NBS said. After deducting price factors, per capita disposable income rose 2.9 percent from the previous year.

The nation created 12.06 million new jobs in urban regions throughout the year, surpassing its annual target of 11 million, and officials have stressed the importance of continuing an employment-first policy in 2023.

Despite the overall stable economic performance, the NBS said the foundation for economic recovery remains unstable. The country will comprehensively deepen reform and opening-up and focus on strengthening market confidence to promote improvements of the economy.

2022年中国经济“成绩单”重磅出炉，GDP总量首破120万亿元大关。

国务院新闻办今天（1月17日）举行发布会，国家统计局发布2022年国民经济运行情况。数据显示，2022年国民经济总量突破120万亿元，比上年增长3.0%。这是继2020年、2021年连续突破100万亿元、110万亿元之后，又跃上新的台阶。

2022年，我国加大宏观调控的力度，有效应对国际形势、国内疫情、高温干旱等多重超预期因素的冲击，宏观经济大盘总体稳定，高质量发展取得新的成效，民生保障持续加强，经济社会大局保持稳定。 

产业发展基础夯实。农业增产丰收，工业“压舱石”作用也得到了有效发挥，全国工业增加值达到40.2万亿元，制造业增加值达到33.5万亿元，均居世界首位。工业对经济增长贡献率达到36%。

固定资产投资规模突破57万亿元，比上年增长5.1%，增速比2021年加快0.2个百分点，为经济持续增长提供有力支撑。

内需总量规模继续扩大。全年社会消费品零售总额稳定在44万亿元左右，其中网上商品零售额达到了12万亿元。我国仍然是全球第二大消费市场和第一大网络零售市场，超大规模市场优势依然明显。

消费价格温和上涨，CPI全年上涨2%。人均GDP达到了85698元，比上年实际增长3%。按年平均汇率折算，达到12741美元，连续两年保持在1.2万美元以上。

就业形势总体稳定，全年城镇新增就业1206万人，超额完成了1100万元的预期目标。

国家统计局局长康义表示，中国GDP3%的增速与国际主要经济体相比，也是一个比较快的速度。同时也要看到，国际形势依然复杂严峻，国内需求收缩、供给冲击、预期转弱三重压力仍然较大，经济恢复基础仍不牢固。

2022年是中国经济爬坡过坎的一年。中国经受了新冠疫情的冲击，同时面临着世界供应链重塑、内需持续不足等多风险叠加。但中国经济发展韧性强、超大规模市场优势突出、供应链产业链体系完整齐全、长期经济发展向好的基本面没有改变。

去年四季度以来，海外需求收缩进一步显现，国内疫情对宏观经济的扰动加剧，经济复苏进程明显放缓。国务院防疫二十条新规和“新十条”规定陆续颁布以后，市场信心大力提振，全面助力社会面复工复产，但随着国内疫情政策转变，国内各地疫情陆续迎来一轮高峰，对整体经济造成较大影响。

康义强调，下阶段，坚持稳字当头、稳中求进，更好统筹疫情防控和经济社会发展，更好统筹发展和安全，全面深化改革开放，大力提振市场信心，着力稳增长、稳就业、稳物价，推动经济运行整体好转，努力实现质的有效提升和量的合理增长。

• China’s population has declined for the first time in six decades, with the national birth rate for 2022 falling to a record low. Deaths outnumbered births in China as its overall population plummeted by 850,000 people, to 1.4118 billion in 2022, down from 1.4126 billion a year earlier, the NBS said on Tuesday. There were a total of 9.56 million births — a record low birth rate of 6.77 per thousand — and 10.41 million deaths. The 9.56 million births are a decrease of almost 10 percent from 2021, when about 10.6 million babies were born, while the death rate of 7.37 per 1,000 people was up from 7.18 in 2021.

  2022年全国人口减少85万人：1月17日，国家统计局发布数据显示，2022年，中国人口出现近61年来的首次人口负增长。2022年年末全国人口（包括31个省、自治区、直辖市和现役军人的人口，不包括居住在31个省、自治区、直辖市的港澳台居民和外籍人员）141175万人，比上年末减少85万人。具体来看，2022年全年出生人口956万人，人口出生率为6.77‰；死亡人口1041万人，人口死亡率为7.37‰；人口自然增长率为-0.60‰。

• House prices slumped in 78 percent of China’s biggest cities last month from the month before, marking the fifth month running since August last year when housing prices fell by more than 70 percent month on month as demand stays sluggish, according to the latest data. The price of a newly built home sank in December from the month before in 55 out of the 70 medium-sized and large cities polled, according to official figures from the NBS on Monday. This is four more than in November. The price of pre-owned homes fell in 90 percent of the 70 metropolises, or 63 of them, in December from the month before, according to the NBS. This is one more than in November.  

  12月70城房价出炉：1月16日，国家统计局公布2022年12月份70个大中城市商品住宅销售价格指数。12月份，70个大中城市中，新建商品住宅销售价格环比下降城市有55个，比上月增加4个；二手住宅销售价格环比下降城市有63个，比上月增加1个。一线城市新建商品住宅销售价格环比由上月下降0.2%转为持平；二手住宅销售价格环比下降0.5%，降幅比上月扩大0.1个百分点。二线城市新建商品住宅销售价格环比下降0.3%，降幅比上月扩大0.1个百分点；二手住宅销售价格环比下降0.4%，降幅与上月相同。三线城市新建商品住宅销售价格环比下降0.3%，降幅与上月相同；二手住宅销售价格环比下降0.4%，降幅比上月收窄0.1个百分点。

• China Customs has started checking that inbound passengers entering the country by plane have a negative Covid-19 test result within 48 hours. Starting Tuesday, travelers to China will have to show a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours to the airlines’ staff before boarding the plane and fill in a health declaration form with the test information once landed, according to notices issued Monday by Chinese embassies in the US, South Korea, Japan, Canada, Singapore, Russia, Brazil, Iran, Poland, and Iceland. China Custom will randomly check some of the forms, they added.

  今起多国来华由所乘航司查48小时核酸：近日，中国驻多国使馆发布“关于前往中国旅客疫情防控要求的通知”：根据中国政府2022年12月27日发布的新型冠状病毒感染乙类乙管后中外人员往来暂行措施要求，前往中国旅客须在行前48小时进行核酸检测，结果阴性者可赴华。为确保国际旅行健康安全，自2023年1月17日起（当地时间），执飞赴华航班的航空公司将负责查验旅客登机前48小时内核酸检测阴性证明，请予以配合。中国海关将在旅客入境时对证明进行抽查。据媒体梳理，从昨天开始已有中国驻多国大使馆发出同样的通知，包括中国驻美使馆、中国驻加拿大使馆、中国驻日本大使馆、中国驻新加坡大使馆等。

• China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) on Monday announced it will resume accepting applications for commercial performances involving people from the Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and the island of Taiwan, starting from Feb. 16.  New commercial performance applications involving people from overseas are still suspended, except for those who are already in the Chinese mainland, according to a statement released by the ministry.

  2月16日起恢复对涉港澳台营业性演出的受理和审批：文化和旅游部市场管理司16日发出通知决定，自2023年2月16日起，各地文化和旅游行政部门恢复对涉港澳台营业性演出的受理和审批。暂缓新批涉外营业性演出活动（演职人员已在境内的除外）。通知要求，各地要继续加强对营业性演出活动的审核把关，督促演出举办单位执行“乙类乙管”后的疫情防控措施，持续推动演出市场繁荣发展，更好满足人民群众精神文化需求。

• Chinese drivers will be able to benefit from the first round of oil price cut in 2023. China's top economic planner announced on Tuesday that it will slash the per-ton retail price of gasoline by 205 yuan and diesel by 195 yuan starting from Wednesday. It will cost 8 yuan less for private car owners to fill up a 50-liter tank.

• China's Ximalaya logged its first profit since its inception in 2012 in the fourth quarter of last year, according to the Tencent-backed audio platform's CEO. Ximalaya had a profit of tens of millions of Chinese yuan in the fourth quarter of 2022 thanks to its efforts in strategy and organization clarity, long-term vision to create user value, and the creation of sustainable profitability by cutting costs and increasing profitability, Yu Jianjun said at the company's recent year-end party. Data show that China's No. 1 online audio platform had 282 million monthly active users as of the third quarter of last year.

  喜马拉雅实现历史首次盈利：近日，据喜马拉雅创始人兼CEO余建军在公司年会透露，喜马拉雅于2022年第四季度首次实现单季度千万级的盈利，这也是喜马拉雅创业十年来首次实现盈利。余建军在年会上提到，盈利得益于公司在三个方向的努力：战略与组织清晰度不断提升；坚持以创造用户价值为导向的长期主义；降本增效，打造可持续盈利能力。截至2022年第三季度，喜马拉雅全场景平均月活跃用户已达2.82亿。

• Shares of Simcere Pharmaceutical Group plunged 15 percent today, despite China’s drug and medical devices regulator granted new drug application approval to Xiannuoxin, the company’s innovative oral treatment for Covid-19, the firm said in a filing yesterday. Simcere today referred the stock slump to a “market behavior”, which is not subject to the will of the company.

  先声药业新冠口服药上市申请获受理：1月16日，先声药业发布公告称，该公司抗新冠病毒创新药先诺欣（先诺特韦片/利托那韦片组合包装）新药上市申请（NDA）获国家药品监督管理局（NMPA）以药品特别审批程序受理，获批上市后将用于轻型和中型新冠病毒感染（COVID-19）成年患者的治疗。1月17日，先声药业股价收跌超15%。对此，公司表示：先诺欣新药上市以药品特别审批程序受理，用时将大大缩短。至于股价反应是市场行为，不以公司意志为转移。

• China's outstanding yuan funds for foreign exchange climbed in December 2022 from the previous month, data from the country's central bank showed Monday. The funds came in at about 21.47 trillion yuan at the end of December, 93.88 billion yuan more than November, growing for three consecutive months. 

  12月末外汇占款余额21.47万亿元：央行1月16日发布的数据显示，至2022年12月末，中国央行口径外汇占款余额为214712.28亿元，环比增加938.79亿元人民币。外汇占款余额实现连续三个月增长。

• Fosun International, a major Chinese investment group, has secured a 12 billion yuan loan from a group of eight banks, the largest to a private Chinese company so far this year, amid ongoing concern over its liquidity and debts. Fosun High Technology Group, the conglomerate’s Chinese mainland arm, signed the syndicated loan agreement with the group led by five major state-owned lenders -- Industrial and Commercial Bank of China(ICBC), Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank, and Bank of Communications -- along with participation by China Minsheng Bank, Export-Import Bank of China, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, the firm said in a press release on Monday.

  复星获银团贷款120亿：1月16日，上海复星高科技（集团）有限公司与8家国内银行贷款签约仪式在上海BFC外滩金融中心举行。根据协议，中国工商银行、中国农业银行、中国银行、中国建设银行、交通银行作为联合牵头行，中国民生银行、中国进出口银行、上海浦东发展银行作为参贷行，共同组成银团，向复星高科提供总计人民币120亿元贷款。

• The Shanghai branch of the ICBC will provide 240 billion yuan in intentional financing to 16 property developers in the city to support the healthy development of the real estate market. Longfor Properties, China Merchants Shekou, Poly Developments & Holdings and OCT are among the developers that will receive financing in the form of development loans, mortgage packages, letters of guarantees, loans for mergers and acquisitions and other integrated financial services, according to the strategic cooperation agreements signed with ICBC yesterday.

  工行上海分行拟向房企提供2400亿元意向授信：1月16日，工商银行上海市分行举办支持房地产市场平稳健康发展签约仪式，与沪上16家房地产企业签订《银企战略合作协议》，合作意向性融资总额达2400亿元，包括中骏、仁恒、凯德、瑞安、龙湖、宝华、大名城、祥源、旭辉和宝龙等房企。根据合作协议，工商银行上海市分行将充分发挥自身优势，积极对接沪上房地产企业金融需求，为房地产企业提供房包括但不限于地产开发贷款、按揭贷款配套、保函、并购贷款等综合化金融服务。

• Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite losing 0.1 percent, while the Shenzhen Component gained 0.13 percent. Hong Kong stocks ended in negative territory, as the Hang Seng index fell 0.78 percent and the TECH index dipped 0.14 percent.
