Baking sand, scorching sun, and almost unbearable heat. These conditions are absolutely unlivable for humans. However, for solar power plants, they are the ideal environment.

Located in the southern part of Dubai, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park sprawls across an area as vast as 11,000 football fields, making it the world's largest single-site solar park. With a total capacity exceeding 2,300 megawatts, this power plant contributes to 15% of Dubai's energy production capacity.

The fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 1.8 million tonnes annually, firmly establishing the park as a driving force behind Dubai's commitment to renewable energy.

This is just a glimpse of the UAE's ambitious green goals. The country plans to invest AED 600 billion in clean energy projects as part of its Net Zero 2050 strategy.

Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, former Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE, remarks, "Looking into solar, looking into wind, looking into nuclear. So this mix of fuels is a wisdom."

Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum adds, "The whole world is changing now. It's a whole game changing. So we need to change before we're in a big problem. Globally, we know about global warming and all those issues happening worldwide. I think we need to go more green. And we are looking forward to it as the government of the UAE."

Among the nations participating in the Belt and Road Initiative within the Gulf region, the UAE has been ambitious in pursuing green development. As one of the world's largest oil producers, the UAE's efforts in clean energies have been remarkable. The upcoming COP28 in Dubai will provide another unique opportunity to demonstrate such commitment in sustainable development.
