SFC Documentary“The BRI: A Decade On” to Air from Oct.17

Across mountains and seas, age-old bonds of friendship have been rekindled. More than a thousand years ago, Zhang Qian, a Chinese imperial envoy, set out on a westward expedition covering thousands of miles, laying the foundation of the Silk Road. Ten years ago, the “Silk Road Economic Belt” and the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” were envisioned to revitalize ancient trading routes, which came to be known as the Belt and Road Initiative.

Over the past decade, the Belt and Road Initiative has been implemented with fruitful results, its grand road map at the planning stage translated into tangible projects. To mark the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, Correspondents from Southern Finance Omnimedia Corp. travelled far and wide to learn about the experiences of those involved in the journey and to tell the stories behind the joint projects from different perspectives.

In Kazakhstan, we interviewed those who witnessed the birth of Belt and Road Initiative and were moved by the deep friendship between China and Kazakhstan. In Indonesia, as high-speed trains started speeding along the tracks, we rejoiced with the locals at the opening of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway. In the United Arab Emirates, renewable energy projects undertaken by China have come to fruition, attesting the encouraging efforts put into the development of green energy by China and the UAE. In South Africa, we visited local industrial parks to behold the great changes in the land brought on by Chinese enterprises. In Singapore and Malaysia, after setting our eyes on bustling ports with ships coming and going, we chronicled the stories of how companies from Guangdong and other parts of China ventured overseas.
