The Guangdong High-Quality Development Conference kicked off on February 18, 2024, signaling not only the province's but potentially China's leap into the future of high-quality economic development.
In an exclusive interview with SFC, Hoe Ee Khor, chief economist of the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), highlighted the increasing significance of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) as a pivotal growth pole.
With Guangdong already boasting a formidable economy and hosting dynamic, innovative companies like Tencent and electric vehicle manufacturers in Shenzhen, its synergy with Hong Kong, a major financial hub, promises to yield a formidable economic entity.
In addition, Dr. Khor sees ASEAN as a natural partner for the GBA, due to geographical proximity, envisaging enhanced cooperation, trade, and investment links between the Greater Bay Area and ASEAN in the future.
