If you are asked to identify one specific person amid billions of faces from countless videos, how long do you think it would take? A month? A couple of days? Or is it beyond imagination? Now hold your breath and listen carefully. The answer is one second! Achieving such an "amazing speed" is not through manual labor, that's for sure. It's pulled off by artificial intelligence.

The creators of the "world's first city-level dynamic portrait recognition system" are from Intellifusion, an AI enterprise founded by PhDs who used to be active in Silicon Valley. Dr. Chen Ning, Chairman and CEO, who designed China's first commercial vector processor chip, was the chief delegate in the development of the international standard for 4G-LTE. Dr. Chen has acquired 30 authorized patents during his research, thirteen of which were purchased by Apple.

With extensive overseas study and work experience, Chen and his team realized the potential of AI from early on, and decided to return to China and start their own business. Thus, Intellifusion was founded in Shenzhen in 2014. In the fertile soil of the "City of Innovation," this small team rapidly grew. In just 9 years, it was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange as the first AI stock in Shenzhen.

Starting from the R&D of dynamic portrait recognition technology, Intellifusion has become a leading company in the AI industry with full-stack abilities based on self-developed algorithms, chips, and big data. Intellifusion's business scope is no longer limited to security, transportation, and fine management at G-end and B-end in digital city building and daily life. As it entered the C-end market of intelligent wearable devices in March, rapid growth in the AI industry comes with tremendous R&D investment. From 2017 to 2023, Intellifusion put over 70% of revenue in R&D, and still remains unprofitable to this day, which is actually common in the entire AI industry.

In recent years, Intellifusion has continuously explored the commercialization of its products in different scenarios. Besides aiming at the C-end market, it has also invested in commercial service robots, launched low-cost, big model applications, and is diversifying into AI solutions, operations, and products. According to its 2023 financial report, Intellifusion's annual net loss has started to narrow.

Among Intellifusion's nearly 1,000 employees, at least one in two is an R&D technician. A company with such a high level of "R&D" density is a microcosm of the AI industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, demonstrating Guangdong's commitment to AI development.

In 2022, the core industry of AI in Guangdong Province reached 150 billion yuan, with about 170,000 registered AI-related enterprises, and over 900 core enterprises, ranking first nationwide. Over 3 million people work in AI-related industries here. The recent policies clearly demonstrate the development path of the AI industry in Guangdong Province, which aims to build itself into a national innovation-driven area for the general AI industry by 2025. Guangdong will establish a national hub for intelligent computing power, a special zone in the Greater Bay Area, and a national demonstration center for AI scenario application. The implementation of these AI development measures aims to help Guangdong to achieve the largest scale of intelligent computing power in the country and lead the global AI industry by 2025.

As one of the new productive forces, AI has always attracted significant attention. What will Guangdong achieve next in its fast-growing AI industry? Let's be the witness of it together.
