Li Jiayi: Shanghai offers a great stage for Cantonese opera | SFC Markets and Finance

A a highlight event of the 24th China Shanghai International Arts Festival, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Cultural Week opened on Saturday, bringing the region’s finest cultural showcases to Shanghai.

The Cantonese opera “Double Embroidery Affinity” is among the shows selected for the GBA Cultural Week. Li Jiayi, the National class-A actress Plum Blossom Award winner, also participated. She told SFC that Shanghai, a cultural powerhouse with local audiences, new demographics and a global viewership, offers a great stage for Cantonese opera. And Guangdong’s openness, inclusiveness and innovation also resonate with the China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

She emphasized that the work “Double Embroidery Affinity” fuses two intangible heritages, pairing the refined artistry of Guangdong embroidery with the lyrical beauty of Cantonese opera in a celebration of shared excellence.
