Rockwell Automation: A dynamic balancer between supply and demand in China | Multinationals on China

“In today's China, we believe that our more important role is to act as a dynamic balancer between supply and demand.” Ian Shih, President of Rockwell Automation (China) Co Ltd., told the 21st Century Business Herald at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE).

This shift highlights Rockwell’s transformation from a traditional efficiency enhancer to a key driver that stimulates new supply by creating new demand.

Shih emphasized that in the past, companies generally focused on improving production efficiency through industrial automation, but efficiency gains do not necessarily equate to the creation of business opportunities. Rockwell Automation is now shifting its perspective—moving beyond the question of "how to do things faster" to exploring "how to create greater value".

This strategic elevation is becoming increasingly evident in Rockwell’s engagement with emerging industries.

At this year’s CIIE, Rockwell Automation showcased its deep integration and practical achievements in digital and intelligent technologies across emerging sectors, such as the new energy industrial chain, the new material industrial chain and the biomedicine industrial chain.

According to Shih, the key themes are about effectively connecting the upstream and downstream of industrial chains and strengthening end-to-end capabilities across the value chain.

Rockwell Automation has expanded into the healthcare sector this year, applying industrial lean principles to improve the efficiency of healthcare systems—addressing emerging needs driven by global aging trends.
