Zheng Yongnian: Deepening Opening-Up Can Facilitate Integrated Development of the GBA

The 2025 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou), the ninth of its kind, concluded on December 2. Under the theme of "New Plan, New Development, New Choices——Chinese Modernization and New Vision for Global Governance", the Conference explored topics such as innovative pathways to Chinese modernization, the new opportunities they will bring for advancing global modernization, and joint actions to implement the Global Governance Initiative.
Zheng Yongnian, a renowned Chinese scholar, expressed his views on the openness of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in an interview with SFC. He identified basic research, applied technologies, and financial services as three key drivers of development in the GBA, and he believes that deepening opening-up at the regional, national, and international levels can facilitate the integrated development of the area.
