2026 is the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period, as well as the Year of China-Africa People-to-People Exchanges, and this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Africa. Exchanges and cooperation between the two sides continue to deepen.

In an exclusive interview with the SFC, Abdoulie Jobe, Minister of Tourism of Gambia, stated that bilateral relations between China and Gambia are very close, with tourism serving as an important bridge for people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning between the two nations. He pointed out that the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges not only provides a rich platform for interaction but also creates valuable opportunities for Gambia to attract Chinese tourists and enhance its national tourism visibility.

Jobe stressed that Gambia will continue to advance China-Gambia tourism cooperation, sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation, strengthen human resources development, and ensure that local communities benefit from sustainable development and cultural integration. He expressed hope that tourism will further strengthen the bonds between the two peoples, allowing Chinese tourists to enjoy the beautiful scenery, rich culture and warm smiles on the "Smiling Coast of Africa".
