Global Eyes on China | Josina Fortes: China's development path is down-to-earth and distinctive

The Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization states: “As Chinese modernization has been advanced continuously through reform and opening up, it will surely embrace broader horizons through further reform and opening up.”

Josina Fortes, Deputy Leader of the Independent Party Group in the Parliament of Cape Verde, shared her observations with an SFC reporter during her recent visit to China. She noted, “This is my fourth visit to China, and the tremendous development and achievements China has realized unfold before my eyes.” She praised China's unique development path, which she described as “down-to-earth, distinctive, and adapted to its own culture,” and recognized it as a model for success.

Fortes pointed out that while Cape Verde, a relatively small country, currently relies on imports in some areas, there is significant potential for expanded cooperation with China. “Currently, the cooperation between China and Cape Verde is more about China's assistance to Cape Verde, but I believe that the cooperation will move towards a win-win situation in the future,” she said. She emphasized the potential for increased opportunities through further cultural and tourism exchanges, noting that tourism, which constitutes 23% of Cape Verde's GDP, could greatly benefit from deeper integration with Chinese cultural and tourism sectors.

“Future opportunities will only increase,” Fortes concluded, expressing optimism about the growing and mutually beneficial relationship between China and Cape Verde.
